Colt stared coldly at the smirking man before him. He’d underestimated Lippman. Never would he have anticipated the other man would dare come to his ranch to bring him in. The jackass clearly had a death wish.

“What do you hope to gain by coming here and bringing armed escorts, Lippman?”

Lippman laughed. “You don’t know? I thought I made myself very clear. Aren’t you going to invite me in?”

Colt easily maintained the same breathing pattern and heart rate even though he wanted nothing more than to flatten the fucker. He’d been in enough interrogations and in hostile situations to know that showing his emotions wasn’t a good idea. Besides, Lippman was scared shitless of his reputation. He’d brought over twenty men with him. Unfortunately, the idiot hadn’t heeded the many redactions in his records. What the fuck did he think those blackouts on the pages of his records meant? Dumbass!

“Lippman, state your business and get the fuck out of my house.” He’d told his security team to stand down. Shit would hit the fan if one of them killed a CIA agent. No, he was prepared to deal with the lot on his own.

“Tsk, tsk, your hospitality is sorely lacking,” Lippman murmured as an attempt to appear unfazed by Colt’s intimating presence.

“Listen, asshole, be grateful of the fact that you’re still breathing. Your connections in Washington don’t mean shit here.” Colt gave the other man a tiny smile that immediately had Lippman revealing how nervous he was. Yeah, mudderfucker, you just crossed a boundary that I’m sure you wish you hadn’t! Coming onto my property with this kind of firepower is asking to get your ass kicked.

“You should be helping me! I only want what’s best for the military. Everyone at the Pentagon understands that. Why can’t you?”

“We’ve asked Jane if she’s interested. She wants no part of this shit. Why the fuck can’t you move the hell on?”

“There is no Jane! Only Imani! And I need to talk to her to make her understand how important this.”

Colt kept all the emotion he was feeling from his face. “Imani is not Jane. You need to get that through your thick fucking skull before I change my mind about your breathing situation.”

“You’re such an arrogant sonofabitch! I have twenty-five men here surrounding you, and you’re still threatening me? I am taking Ms. St. John with me, whether you like it or not.”

“I would love it if you tried,” Colt drawled.

“We know her capabilities, Colonel. At least we know some of it.” Lippman’s eyes glistened with excitement. “She’s the real deal, man. Her talent is being wasted at that shithole company. She can help us! Marcus says she can build anything!”

Colt stared down at him coldly.

“Marcus told us that she’s more than your ward’s friend.”

“Is that right?” Colt smirked. “And you still had the balls to come here?”

“I don’t want trouble, Colonel. Can’t you see the possibilities here? Join us, help us make the United States military the best in the world. The most feared.
